Microsoft wants people to move away from old IE versions so much that it has even employed Ryan Gavin to literally kill off older versions. Ryan Gavin is the head of the Internet Explorer business group and the man making a big push for users to change to Internet Explorer 9, especially users of Internet Explorer 6.
Internet Explorer 6 is the second most used browser on the planet with a 27 percent market share even though it is now nine years of age. You may wonder why this is the case but the truth is that it is as simple as the fact that Internet Explorer 6 is the default web browser for Windows XP which many systems still use.
Of this mammoth task of getting users of IE 6 to move to IE 9 Ryan Gavin said: "Part of my job is to get IE6 share down to zero as soon as possible,”. One of the big issues that Ryan Gavin will have is that unlike its predecessor the IE 8 web browser IE 9 will not actually be able to work on Windows XP so which just shows the size of the job in hand.
With Windows Internet Explorer 8 being the fastest growing web browser on the internet and Internet Explorer 9 still in development but looking to be even further advanced than any IE browser there is expected to be a huge surge in people using IE 9. That being said bringing those on Windows XP in line will be a hard task, only time will tell if Ryan Gavin can achieve his goal.
